From 26 August - 1 September 2012, under the support of the Royal Thai Embassy in Dakar, Professor Dr. Bay Karim Diallo, ENT specialist from the General de Grand Yoff Hospital and Dr. Aminata Fofana, ENT doctor from the Fann Hospital travelled to Kaolack to provide medical services to local patients at the “Centre Hospitalier Regional de Kaolack”.
The total number of 158 patients was treated during the 7-day service, ranging from specialized consultations to complex surgical procedures. Representatives of the Royal Thai Embassy also visited the site of the project and met with the hospital executives on 30 August 2012.
Since 2005, the Royal Thai Embassy in Dakar has continually provided support for the mobile services of ENT Specialists from Dakar to hospitals in other cities of Senegal. The objectives of the project are two-fold. One is to enable Senegalese specialists from Dakar to provide specialized and high quality medical services to patients in the remote and rural areas of Senegal. Two is to provide training opportunities, both theoretical and practical, for the hospitals’ medical staff. The ENT Project also demonstrates Thailand’s commitment to the south-south cooperation in the public health sector.
In 2012, the Royal Thai Embassy supported 4 ENT Specialists Mobile Services including the services to Diourbel (28 April - 2 May), Ziguinchor (25-29 June), Tambacounda (2-8 July) and to Kaolack (29 August - 1 September).
