On 27 August 2026, Her Excellency Ms. Nipa Nirannoot, Ambassador-designate of Thailand to Senegal, held discussions with Mr. Njundu FATTY, President of the Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), Ms. Sarata CONATEH, Chief Executive Officer of GCCI, and Ms. Theresa S. DIARRA, Director of Operations and Membership Relations of GCCI, on ways to promote trade cooperation between Thailand and The Gambia, as well as development partnership.

On this occasion, the Ambassador proposed an online consultation among the Thai Chamber of Commerce, GCCI and the Royal Thai Embassy to establish networks of cooperation and exchange knowledge, visions and approaches to enhancing trade value and promoting development cooperation. The Ambassador reaffirmed Thailand’s importance attached to The Gambia as a friendly country in Africa, as well as a trade and development partner, and expressed Thailand’s willingness to share knowledge and best practices in areas of importance to The Gambia.

The President of GCCI expressed appreciation for Thailand’s interest in and commitment to The Gambia, and agreed on the importance of further strengthening trade and investment cooperation between the two countries. He proposed organising business matching activities and a Business Forum in Thailand or The Gambia to provide opportunities for the private sectors of both countries to gain a better understanding of each other’s potential and business opportunities. Key sectors identified by The Gambia include tourism, agricultural machinery, fisheries, construction and infrastructure, as well as pharmaceuticals and healthcare products.

The Ambassador welcomed the proposal and will invite the Office of Commercial Affairs in Abuja to explore opportunities for jointly organising such business activities in the future.
