On 3 September 2026, H.E. Ms. Nipa Nirannoot, Ambassador of Thailand to Senegal, hosted a dinner reception in honour of seven medical professionals and hospital directors from public hospitals in different regions across Senegal, including Dakar, Mbour, Saint-Louis, Touba and Fatick. The delegation is scheduled to visit Thailand from 4 to 12 September 2026 to participate in the “Hospital Management Capacity Building in Thailand” programme, with support from the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) and the Department of Medical Services, Ministry of Public Health.

During the reception, the Royal Thai Embassy briefed the delegation on the objectives, programme and activities of the training programme. The three-day training programme will include visits and study sessions at Rajavithi Hospital, Lerdsin Hospital, Sai Noi Hospital and Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute, as well as a study visit on the management of the National Blood Centre of the Thai Red Cross Society. The programme will also provide an opportunity to discuss medical personnel exchanges and internship opportunities with Siriraj Hospital, as well as showcase Thai medical and public health innovations relevant to the African context by the National Innovation Agency (NIA).

The training and study visit programme builds upon the longstanding cooperation between the Royal Thai Embassy and hospitals in Senegal through the Embassy’s mobile medical missions, which have provided free general medical consultations and treatment continuously for more than 21 years. The missions have reached and provided medical services and consultations to more than 10,000 patients across Senegal.

The initiative is in line with Thailand’s Thailand-Africa Initiatives, particularly its focus on development cooperation in the fields of medicine and public health, as well as human resource development.

The Senegalese hospital directors expressed their appreciation for the Royal Thai Embassy’s continued commitment to expanding Thailand-Senegal cooperation in public health into new areas. They also expressed their enthusiasm at the opportunity to undertake training in Thailand, which is internationally recognised for its hospital management and healthcare services. They expressed confidence that the programme would provide valuable knowledge and experience not only to the participants themselves, but also to other healthcare professionals in Senegal, who will benefit from the subsequent sharing and transfer of knowledge gained during the training.
