On 26 August 2026, the Royal Thai Embassy in Dakar, led by Her Excellency Ms. Nipa Nirannoot, Ambassador-Designate of Thailand to Senegal, conducted a free mobile medical unit project and provided consultations to three Thai nationals in Gambia. The embassy also visited and inquired about the living conditions of the Thai workers in Coco Ocean Resort & Spa Hotel, Banjul, including Thai massage therapists at the spa and chefs at the Thai restaurant, who were legally employed and receiving good and appropriate care from their local employers.

On this occasion, the Ambassador-Designate met with Mr. Rushan Ranga Weerakkody, General Manager of Coco Ocean Resort & Spa Hotel and Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Gambia, expressing gratitude for the excellent care given to the Thai workers and commending the hotel for offering authentic Thai cuisine and Thai massage services, which have contributed to its more widely known. Mr. Rushan, in turn, praised the quality of the Thai workforce and mentioned that the Thai restaurant is popular and highly regarded as one of the best in Gambia, having always served Thai food to leaders and dignitaries from various countries, who have stayed at the hotel.
