On 14 July 2026, H.E. Ms. Nipa NIRANNOOT, Ambassador-designate of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Republic of Senegal, met with Ms. Cathy Diagne THIOYE, Director-General for Asia, the Pacific and the Middle East, Ministry of African Integration, Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad of the Republic of Senegal, at the Ministry to discuss ways to enhance the comprehensive partnership between Thailand and Senegal. During the meeting, the Thai side proposed several initiatives to further strengthen bilateral relations, including the exchange of ministerial-level visits, the establishment of the Thailand–Senegal Political Consultations between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs, the conclusion of an Agreement on Visa Exemption for Holders of Diplomatic and Official Passports, and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation between the Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Senegalese Chamber of Commerce.
The Ambassador reaffirmed Senegal's importance as one of Thailand's key partners and gateway to West Africa, where Thailand has maintained its diplomatic presence for more than 46 years. She highlighted the longstanding cooperation between the two countries in economic partnership and development cooperation, particularly in the areas of public health, food security and human resource development. Notable examples include Thailand's mobile medical services programme, which has been implemented continuously for over 20 years, the establishment of a prosthetics production and rehabilitation centre for persons with disabilities, aquaculture and food processing projects, and regular business exchange missions that have been conducted continuously over the past six years.
The Ambassador also proposed future areas of cooperation, including a project to strengthen Senegal's rice production capacity, Muay Thai training activities for Senegalese youth in connection with the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, and cooperation on sustainable tourism through a Sister City partnership.
Ms. THIOYE expressed appreciation for the Royal Thai Embassy's longstanding support and development cooperation with Senegal. She welcomed the Thai proposals and reaffirmed Senegal's readiness to support efforts to further strengthen bilateral relations. She also noted that the growing momentum of cooperation between the two countries would contribute to expediting Senegal's consideration of establishing a resident Embassy in Thailand in the near future.
