As a part of the continuous cooperation between Thailand and Senegal in the area of public health, during the 28th of June to the 4th of July 2010, The Royal Thai Embassy in Dakar, led a delegation of Thailands International Cooperation Agency (TICA) officials and medical experts in the area of Malaria prevention and treatment from the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University to Senegal to conduct feasibility studies and surveys for the planning of Anti-Malaria pilot community project.
In this study visit, the Embassy connected the experts, along with officials from TICA, with other agencies that have been cooperating with Senegal such as USAID of the United States of America and KOICA of the Republic of Korea, as well as conducting field studies, with higher officials from the Ministry of Health of Senegal, in the community of Sagnolfil at Pout town and remote communities of Keur Alpha and Diene in Kaolack region. In said field studies, surveys of communal impacts from Malaria and communities level of awareness in the prevention of Malaria were made in addition to informational discussions with local government officials. Several communal level and town level medical facilities were also visited in the process. The gathered information from the studies will be used in developing the Anti-Malaria pilot community project plan.
From this visit, the Royal Thai Embassy in Dakar believes that the Thai experts have received useful information for the selection of suitable communities for the project, as well as enhancing the cooperation between Thailand and Senegal, especially in the area of human resource development and public health techniques.
