In celebration of 30 years of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Senegal in 2010, the Royal Thai Embassy in Dakar, with Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) and The Prostheses Foundation of H.R.H The Princess Mother, supported the “Fondation des Invalides et Mutilés du Sénégal” in establishing a prostheses production center at the Military Hospital in Ouakam, Dakar with state of the art Thai protheses production technology, equipments, quality supplies, as well as extensive training and technical support.

 

On 14 December 2011, the inauguration ceremony was presided by Mr. Modou Diagne Fada, Minister of Health and Medical Prevention, with the Chief of Staff of the Army, High Commander of the Gendarmerie, and Major of Zone 1 as representatives of Senegal.  The Thai delegation to this occasion was lead by Ms. Suchada Thaibuthao, Deputy Director General of TICA, with The Prostheses Foundation of H.R.H The Princess Mother represented by Associate Professor Dr. Therdchai Jivacate, Secretary General.  In this occasion, the Minister expressed his gratitude for Thailand’s support in this project which will help improve the living conditions of many Senegalese patients, and will be beneficial to Senegal in general.

 

With this establishment as a reflection of close relationship between Thailand and Senegal as well as the continuous cooperation in the south-south cooperation framework of public health, Senegal is also the first country in the Western African region to have received this advance prostheses production technology.
